An imaginary vertical line that divided the body equally

Medial

Near [toward, innermost] to midline

The hear is medial to humerus

Lateral

Farther [away, outermost] from midline

The humerus is lateral to the heart

Nearer to the origination of a structure [close to the body]

The femur is proximal to the fibula

Distal

Farther from the origination of a structure [away from the body]

The fibula is distal to the femur

Superficial

Close to the surface of the body

Deep

Away from the surface of the body
